The first-of-its-kind program from a premier university for the Chief Learning Officer and other learning leaders.

Designed to prepare the Chief Learning Officer (CLO) and other senior-level executives for success as learning and talent development leaders, this program provides a rigorous academic environment where members build the skills necessary to ensure successful learning initiatives in their organizations.

With the average Fortune 1000 company spending 2.5 percent of its operating budget on education, the learning leader plays a vital role in ensuring the organization’s overall success. But the impact of learning extends far beyond the educational budget because learning affects performance across the organization. With more than 90 million adult learners in the United States alone, this work not only impacts the bottom line but also benefits the public. As the chief learning officer, vice president of human resources or training director, your mandate is to make certain that the members of your organization are prepared to meet the challenges of an increasingly demanding global marketplace.

The Executive Program in Work-Based Learning Leadership provides you with the strategic skills and practical experiences you will need to promote a culture of learning, and ensure growth, innovation and increased productivity throughout your organization.

This program blends learning approaches that include onsite classes, virtual sessions, individual and team project work, and application work. The curriculum covers five areas of focus:

  • Organizational/strategic leadership
  • Workplace learning and performance leadership
  • Business analysis
  • Evidence-based decision making and analysis
  • The use of technology to support and enhance workplace learning

Collaborative in nature, the program builds upon a network of powerful peer and faculty support that provides members with information, advice and feedback. The relationships that evolve from membership in this program can become an invaluable part of the student’s professional network.

Pursue a master's or doctoral degree from Penn GSE or a certificate from Wharton. Each of the five course blocks represents a stand-alone certificate from Wharton. The program also gives students the opportunity to pursue a master's or doctoral degree through the Graduate School of Education of the University of Pennsylvania.

Applications are being accepted now for the Summer 2009 course block. The updated application deadline is January 15, 2009. For information about tuition and applications, please click here click here.
