The NIDA/Wharton Executive Leadership Program provides senior executives from Thailand and the East Asian region with the high-level perspectives in organizational leadership and strategy that are necessary for managing businesses successfully in today’s global economy.
The program is designed to address two key themes that continually challenge global business leaders — leadership and strategy. The program begins on campus at NIDA in Bangkok. The participants then travel to Philadelphia to spend five days for the second portion of the program at Wharton. The program concludes with a wrap-up session in Bangkok. Participants completing this program qualify to earn a NIDA-Wharton Certificate presented at the graduation dinner in Philadelphia. All participants will have a one year membership to the Thai Journal of Development Administration and a subscription to Knowledge@Wharton.
The program will be delivered by business experts and faculty from NIDA and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Wharton’s faculty members are at the cutting-edge of research in their fields and have published numerous papers and are widely cited. Faculty members selected to teach in this program have significant experience in dealing with groups of senior executives from leading companies across the Asian region and the globe, thus bringing the wealth of their rich practical experiences into the classroom. Distinguished guest speaker(s) are also arranged by NIDA for the Bangkok portion of the program.
Tuition and Program Logistics
The tuition for the program, which includes program materials, reception, breakfasts, coffee/tea breaks, dinners (in Philadelphia), and five nights of lodging in Philadelphia, is 375,000 THB (~US$ 10,000), excluding travel expenses. Business-class air tickets for BKK-US-BKK travel can be arranged by the participant or NIDA.
Costs for hotel accommodation in Philadelphia are included in the program fee. For the Bangkok sessions, participants from countries outside of Thailand can expect to pay approximately US$ 125 per night for a room at a five-star hotel.

The NIDA/Wharton Executive Leadership Program emphasizes a judicious blend of learning pedagogies that may include cases, discussions, and small group activities. The balance of theory and practice creates a stimulating and challenging learning environment. The group will also benefit from close interaction with faculty members as well as with their classroom peers.
The program is targeted towards senior and upper-middle managers with responsibility for strategy formulation and execution.
The program is designed to address two key themes that continually challenge global business leaders—leadership and strategy.
- Understand the difference between being a “leader” and a “manager”, and how to transition between the two.
- Reframe issues so that problems are more quickly determined.
- Understand what new products and services can be profitably offered in a marketplace enabled by technology, and how technology can be used by corporations to harvest market opportunities.
